Shaping the Future

Since its founding in 1819, the University of Cincinnati has been fortunate to receive support from visionary men and women. Their gift commitments through the years have formed a strong legacy that is realized daily in the excellence that epitomizes our University: the quality of UC’s academic programs, the lives or our students, the groundbreaking achievements of faculty and researchers and the personal and career successes of UC alumni throughout the world.

Their legacy has also inspired others, today’s visionaries, who help assure that the University of Cincinnati continues its traditions of excellence in higher education, research and service for generations to come.

Through the Herman Schneider Legacy Society, the University honors some of its most forward-thinking donors and advocates, all of whom share a commitment to UC’s future.

The Society is named in honor of one of UC’s most visionary educators. Dr. Herman Schneider – first as dean of the College of Engineering, then as University President (1929-32) – pioneered the concept and practice that we know as “cooperative education.” Dr. Schneider’s innovation is a hallmark of UC education today and a fundamental educational method in schools and universities throughout the world.

Honoring Today’s Visionaries

The University established the Schneider Society in 1993 to publicly recognize and thank individuals who include the University in their estate or financial plans. Membership in the Schneider Society is extended to individuals who establish planned gifts to benefit the University and its colleges and programs.

For many people, a planned gift is the best way to make the ultimate gift to the University. Gift planning generally enables you to make a gift commitment today yet keep the benefits of income or other use of the gift during your lifetime. Some planned gifts generate current income tax and capital gains tax savings; all planned gifts help avoid future estate taxes.

Even as they map out their personal financial futures, Society members are partners in creating UC’s future. When donors notify the University of specific financial or estate plans and become members of the Schneider Society, the knowledge that those gifts exist gives University leaders a valuable planning tool in their work to anticipate and meet tomorrow’s challenges.

As Dr. Schneider placed UC in the forefront of education reform, planned gifts from Schneider Society members speak to the future, preserving and promoting excellence.

Your planned gift commitments–whether they help a deserving student, fund an educational program, or establish a research endowment–are the foundation upon which UC will build for generations.
