Development

Director of Alumni and External Affairs, Academic Health Center
 
Structure

The Director of Alumni and External Affairs is employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation and has a full-time assignment to the UC Academic Health Center’s Office of Development and Alumni Affairs.  This position reports to the Executive Director, College of Medicine Office of Development and Alumni Affairs, and has a secondary reporting relationship to the UC Alumni Association.

Focus

The Director of Alumni and External Affairs is responsible for planning, implementing and managing the alumni affairs program for the College of Medicine (COM) and numerous other high profile special events and projects related to the Academic Health Center (AHC) Office of Development and Alumni Affairs.  This position supervises one full-time Assistant Director and one full-time support staff position.
 
Specific Duties

  • Plan, implement and manage the alumni affairs program for the COM, including all aspects of the annual reunion weekend and departmental budget

  • Serve as primary liaison and support for COM Alumni Executive Council program, working closely with officers and class representatives

  • Manage COM Distinguished Alumni Award nomination and selection process

  • Coordinate mailings, publications and other relevant communications

  • Plan, implement and manage various recognition and community outreach events related to the AHC Office of Development and Alumni Affairs, including the annual COM Emeriti dinner, Mini Medical College, selected gift celebration events, etc.

  • Serve on the UC Alumni Association External Relations Committee

  • Supervise one full-time Assistant Director position and one full-time support staff position

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree (or commensurate education and experience) and demonstrated success in planning, implementing and managing special events. Candidates must possess strong written and interpersonal skills and be comfortable building rapport with individuals at all levels.  Position requires a high degree of initiative and the ability to motivate other team members, multi-task and meet deadlines.

Director of Development
University of Cincinnati Alumni Association

Structure

The Director of Development, University of Cincinnati Alumni Association (UCAA), is employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UCF) and reports to the Senior Associate Vice President and Deputy Executive Director, UC Foundation and the Executive Director, UC Alumni Association.

Focus

The Director of Development, UCAA, is responsible for planning, implementing and managing fund raising initiatives for the UC Alumni Association.  These needs will include, but are not limited to, student scholarships, alumni facilities and alumni programs.  Primary emphasis for this position will placed on cultivating and soliciting alumni across the country to secure support at the special and major gifts level of $25,000 and above. 

Specific Duties

  • Develop and implement plans for achieving projected dollar goals for assigned projects each year and for achieving specific campaign goals during the university-wide comprehensive campaign

  • Devise and execute strategies for qualifying and cultivating 150-300 assigned prospects for special, major and deferred gifts through in-person solicitations

  • Plan and implement an annual fund raising solicitation program for the UCAA, in consultation with the UC Foundation’s Office of Annual Giving

  • Coordinate all planned gift, corporation and foundation activities with appropriate UC Foundation staff

  • Partner with Executive Director, UCAA alumni leadership and volunteers on fundraising initiatives

     
  • Build and qualify viable prospect lists, utilizing the resources of the UCF Office of Prospect Research, and through consultation with alumni leadership, volunteers and staff

  • Maintain an active schedule of personal visits with prospects

  • Represent the UCAA at functions, events and meetings

  • Ensure appropriate stewardship of gifts and donors

  • Work in conjunction with other UCAA and UCF staff to ensure the coordination of activities

  • Other duties as assigned   

Requirements

Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree (or commensurate education and experience) and at least three to five years of progressively responsible fund-raising experience.  Special consideration will be given to candidates who are graduates of the University of Cincinnati.  Knowledge of gift planning and charitable tax planning techniques are a plus but not required.  Candidates should possess strong written and interpersonal communication skills.  Candidates must be willing to travel.

Associate Director of Development, McMicken College of Arts and Sciences

Structure
The Associate Director of Development is employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UCF) and reports to the Senior Director of Development, McMicken College of Arts and Sciences. 

Focus
The Associate Director of Development is responsible for activities related to fund raising and solicitation of special and major gifts for various science departments within the College.  These activities include identifying and cultivating prospects; planning and soliciting special and major gifts; coordinating donor relations, stewardship, publications, and college-based activities with other college staff; and maintaining appropriate documentation of these activities.

Specific Duties

• Build, qualify and manage a portfolio of assigned prospects.  Devise and execute strategies for qualifying and cultivating prospects (special, major and deferred), and solicit and close gifts in consultation with the appropriate College and UCF staff.

• Develop and implement plans for achieving projected dollar goals for assigned projects each year.

• Work with appropriate College and UCF staff to prepare proposals and gift agreements.

• Make discovery, cultivation and solicitation visits within and outside the Cincinnati region.

• Coordinate with College departments and faculty as needed to increase fund raising through special projects or campaigns.

• Maintain donor files and report updates in the UC Foundation database. 

• Participate in cultivation and stewardship events of the College and University, providing collegial assistance as needed for significant college events.

Requirements

Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree and three to five years demonstrated successful major gift fund-raising experience.  A background in the sciences is a plus.  Candidates should have experience in directing or participating in a comprehensive fund-raising campaign.  Candidates should possess the ability to build and sustain good relationships and effectively collaborate with donors, colleagues, volunteers, college personnel and other constituencies in a professional and timely manner.  Candidates should demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, excellent follow-through, accuracy and management of details.  Candidates should possess strong organizational skills and the ability to set priorities and meet multiple, competing deadlines.  Proficiency in Microsoft Word and products, database management, e-mail and web-related activities required.  Candidates must be willing to travel as needed.

Director of Development, Provost Programs

Structure

The Director of Development, Provost Programs, is employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UCF) and reports to the Senior Vice President and Deputy Executive Director, UC Foundation.


Focus

The Director of Development, Provost Programs, is responsible for planning, implementing and managing fund raising initiatives for the areas of Co-op, Honors, International and Graduate Studies.  Primary emphasis for this position will placed on building and qualifying viable prospect lists and cultivating and soliciting donor prospects to secure support at the special and major gifts level of $25,000 and above.

  • Develop and implement plans for achieving projected dollar goals for assigned projects each year and for achieving specific campaign goals during the university-wide comprehensive campaign

  • Ensure appropriate stewardship of gifts and donors
  • Work in conjunction with other UCF staff to ensure the coordination of activities
  • Other duties as assigned   

    Requirements

    Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree (master's degree preferred) and at least three to five years of senior level management experience, preferably in higher education. Candidates should have demonstrated effectiveness in fund-raising planning, experience directing a comprehensive fund-raising program and a record of successful major gift closures ($100,000+).  An appreciation for the diversity of the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences programs and their different fund-raising needs and objectives is important.  Candidates should have demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and work with the highest degree of professionalism.  Candidates should possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to think and plan strategically.  Candidates must be willing to travel as needed.

    Assistant Development Officer 
     
    Structure

    The Assistant Development Officer is employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UCF) and reports to the Associate Vice President and Principal Gifts Officer, UC Foundation.


    Focus

    The Assistant Development Officer will support the UC Foundation’s capital campaign effort by making discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship calls across the country. 


    Specific Duties

    • Identify and visit alumni and friends across the country to assess interest in the University and capacity to make gifts

    • Devise and execute strategies for identifying, qualifying and cultivating prospects for McMicken and special level gifts through in-person solicitations

    • Partner with national and college-based development officers to develop fundraising strategies for specific prospects

    • Maintain an active schedule of personal visits with prospects

    • Work in conjunction with other UCAA and UCF staff to ensure the coordination of activities

    • Represent the UCF at functions, events and meetings

    • Other duties as assigned

    Requirements

    Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree and strong interpersonal and written communication skills.   Candidates should possess the ability to interact favorably with a diverse group of individuals and must be willing to travel extensively for this position.  Strong preference for University of Cincinnati graduate with demonstrated involvement and leadership in campus activities while a student.

    Executive Assistant

    Structure

    The Executive Assistant is employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UCF) and reports to the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Trustees.

    Focus

    The Executive Assistant provides coordination and administrative support to the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Trustees.  This position requires strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals, excellent administrative skills, ability to exercise independent judgment and great attention to detail.

    Key Responsibilities and Examples:

    Board Support

    • Prepares Board of Trustees, Executive Committee, Investment Committee and Compensation Committee meeting minutes

    • Prepares and mails meeting materials to the Board of Trustees, Investment Committee and Compensation Committee

    • Renews semiannual Corporate Resolutions by coordinating the signature of the UCF Board Chairman then mailing to 35 stock brokers

    • Maintains Code of Regulations and Contract for Services

    Accounting Support

    • Maintains CASE membership roster

    • Administers corporate credit card programs; MasterCard, Delta, Hertz

    • Match, approve and forward invoices for payment

    Administrative Support

    • Enter Contact Report information in BSR

    • Prepare and coordinate travel

    • Facilities Management

    • Assist new staff with relocation and housing

    • Assist President’s support staff as needed

    • Other duties as assigned

    Requirements

    • Associate’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and related experience

    • Multi-years experience in a key administrative support role

    • Proficiency with transcribing from a Dictaphone, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
